Lagos, Nigeria — Oluwaseyi “Seyi” Tinubu, son of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has been installed as the Okanlòmo of Eyọ Ọba Alakẹtẹ Pupa, Laba Ẹkun, a prestigious traditional chieftaincy title, ahead of this year’s Eyo Festival in Lagos. The ceremony took place on Friday, December 26, 2025, drawing attention as the city prepares for the annual cultural celebration.

The installation ceremony was held in Lagos State as part of activities leading up to the Eyo Festival scheduled for Saturday, December 27, 2025, a vibrant cultural event that showcases the iconic white‑clad Eyo masquerades and is considered one of the city’s most important traditional celebrations.

Governor Babajide Sanwo‑Olu of Lagos State publicly congratulated Seyi Tinubu, describing the honour as a reflection of his service, character, and commitment to culture and the people of Lagos. In a message shared on social media, the governor also wished him strength and clarity as he embraces the responsibilities and expectations that accompany the traditional title.

The conferment of the chieftaincy title was part of a ceremony that highlighted Lagos’ rich cultural heritage. Alongside the installation, the Lagos State Government has been actively preparing for the Eyo Festival, including issuing travel advisories and managing traffic to ensure the safety and smooth movement of spectators and participants.

This latest honour follows recent traditional recognition for Seyi Tinubu and his wife, Layal, who were also conferred with chieftaincy titles in Lagos, building on similar honours they received in Oyo State earlier in December.

The Eyo Festival, rooted in Yoruba tradition, celebrates Lagos’ history and cultural identity, drawing both locals and visitors to the island for a series of colourful processions, music, dance, and pageantry.
