ABUJA, NIGERIA — A tragic incident has left the Abuja community in shock after Inspector Lawal Ibrahim of the Nigeria Police Force was found dead in a hotel room at Palasa Hotel, Gwagwalada following what authorities describe as an alleged intimate encounter with a woman he met online. The incident, reported on January 1, 2026, has triggered an ongoing investigation by law enforcement agencies.
According to preliminary reports, Inspector Ibrahim had met the woman, identified as Maryam Abba, approximately three months ago online and invited her to the hotel last week. During their stay, the pair reportedly engaged in sexual activity repeatedly, including in the evening, late at night, and into the early hours of the morning.
Following one of the early morning encounters, the officer began experiencing severe breathing difficulties and soon became unresponsive. Maryam Abba reportedly attempted to revive him by sprinkling water on his face, but her efforts proved unsuccessful. She then alerted the hotel management, who contacted the police. Upon their arrival, law enforcement officials found Inspector Ibrahim lifeless. He was later confirmed dead at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital, where his body was taken for further examination.
Items recovered from the hotel room included a watermelon, a sexual enhancement drug, a phone charger, and personal effects, raising questions about the circumstances surrounding the officer’s death. Maryam Abba was subsequently taken into custody pending further investigations, while police continue to review the scene and gather evidence.
The FCT Police Command has yet to release an official statement on the incident. Forensic and toxicology investigations are reportedly ongoing as authorities work to determine whether natural causes, substances consumed, or other factors contributed to the officer’s death.
This incident has sparked public discussion regarding safety, intimate encounters arranged through online platforms, and the responsibilities of individuals involved in private liaisons. Law enforcement has urged the public to allow the investigation to proceed while encouraging anyone with pertinent information to come forward to assist in uncovering the full circumstances surrounding the case.
