The Imo State Police Command has arrested 24-year-old Wisdom Onyeaju of Umuekweye, Irete, in Owerri-West Local Government Area, in connection with an alleged defilement case. The arrest follows credible information provided by the victim’s family, who drew public attention to the incident through a widely circulated video on social media.
Onyeaju is currently in custody at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), where he is undergoing a thorough investigation. Authorities have stated that upon completion of the probe, he will be arraigned in court on the appropriate charges.
In addition, the Command has detained police officers alleged to have engaged in professional misconduct while handling the case. An orderly room trial has been scheduled to commence on Monday, January 12, 2026, to address the alleged infractions in accordance with established police regulations.
DSP Okoye Henry, the Police Public Relations Officer for Imo State, emphasized that the Command remains committed to professionalism, transparency, and accountability. He assured the public that justice will be served and that the investigation will proceed without bias.
The arrest and internal review highlight the dual focus of the Imo State Police on addressing both criminal acts against citizens and ensuring that law enforcement personnel uphold ethical and professional standards.
