The Weija Sector Command of the Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has arrested 11 foreign nationals suspected of involvement in counterfeit currency production and cyber fraud activities. The arrests, carried out as part of a coordinated enforcement operation, target individuals allegedly engaged in sophisticated financial crimes that pose significant risks to Ghana’s economy and digital security.

According to GIS officials, preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects were part of a network operating across multiple jurisdictions, producing fake currency and using online platforms to defraud unsuspecting victims. The operation is reported to have disrupted both local and cross-border criminal schemes, with authorities seizing equipment and materials believed to be used in the production of counterfeit notes.

The GIS has stated that the arrests underscore the agency’s commitment to combating transnational crime, particularly activities that threaten the integrity of Ghana’s financial system. Officials confirmed that the suspects are being held for further questioning while efforts continue to trace their wider networks and identify potential collaborators.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant against cyber fraud and counterfeit currency, encouraging citizens and businesses to verify the authenticity of notes and report suspicious online activities promptly. The Ghana Immigration Service indicated that additional updates would be provided as the investigation progresses and more details about the criminal network emerge.
