The Adamawa State Police Command has formally charged two individuals to court following a deadly communal conflict in Lamurde Local Government Area that resulted in multiple casualties and widespread property destruction last month. Authorities say the suspects are connected to recent violence between local communities, which has exacerbated long-standing tensions in the region.

According to a statement from the state’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, the two suspects were arraigned at the Chief Magistrate Court I in Yola on charges including criminal conspiracy and culpable homicide. The suspects, identified as William Joshua (30) and Ezekiel Luka (23), were reportedly apprehended after police investigations linked them to attacks on civilians, including the killing of three women on their farmland near Tigno village on 3 January 2026.

During the operation, police recovered 29 rounds of live ammunition, an AK‑47 rifle magazine, and cash believed to be connected to the crime. The suspects were remanded in custody pending further legal proceedings.

Adamawa State Commissioner of Police Dankombo Morris reaffirmed the command’s commitment to bringing those responsible for violence to justice. He urged the public to remain calm and to cooperate with law enforcement while investigations continue to identify any other individuals involved in the Lamurde conflict.

The communal clashes, reportedly between the Bachama and Chobo communities, stem from longstanding disputes over land and resources. Authorities have stressed that addressing these tensions requires both security enforcement and long-term community dialogue to prevent future outbreaks of violence.

The police investigation remains active, and residents and civil society organizations are calling for measures to ensure sustainable peace and prevent further loss of life in the region.
