Maiduguri, Nigeria — A member of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) was killed late Sunday night when suspected terrorists launched an attack on a police position inside the Dangote Cement Factory in Obajana, Kogi State, security sources and media reports confirm. The facility, where a contingent of security operatives was stationed, came under heavy assault in what local sources say appeared to be a reprisal attack linked to recent military actions in the region.

According to preliminary accounts gathered by SaharaReporters and other outlets, a group of hooded attackers stormed the area in significant numbers and opened fire on the police post located within the industrial premises. In the ensuing confrontation, the CJTF member lost his life, though security officials said no police casualties were reported and no weapons were seized by the assailants.

Sources familiar with the incident told reporters that the assault was believed to be in retaliation for a recent military operation in which more than 200 terrorists were reportedly killed in the vicinity, though these figures have not been independently verified by official military spokespeople. The attackers allegedly sought to overrun the position but were met with firm resistance from the security forces on site.

Security personnel stationed at the Dangote Cement facility maintained their positions throughout the clash, and the assailants were eventually forced to retreat after sustaining unspecified losses, according to sources. One security insider emphasized that while the CJTF member was killed in the attack, the defensive actions by the combined force prevented further loss of life among the uniformed officers and thwarted any attempt to seize control of the post.

At the time of reporting, the Kogi State Police Command had not yet issued an official statement on the attack and the circumstances surrounding the death of the CJTF operative. Local authorities and security sources indicate that investigations and heightened security measures are likely to follow as the situation develops.

This incident comes amid ongoing security challenges across central and northern Nigeria, where Boko Haram, Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) and other armed groups continue to carry out sporadic attacks on security formations and civilian targets, often using reprisal tactics in response to offensive operations by military and allied forces.
