Police in Ondo State have detained three individuals in connection with the murder of a 27-year-old woman named Faith, following an apparent machete attack at a residential compound in Ondo Town earlier this month. The arrests come as law enforcement continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal incident, which was first reported to authorities on February 5, 2026. Verified details from multiple reports confirm that the suspects are in custody and that the police are pursuing further inquiries to build a prosecution case.

According to the Ondo State Police Command, the case was formally reported at the Fagun Division of the police on February 5 after residents alerted authorities to an apparent violent attack at a house on Fagun Estate Road 5 in Ondo Town, within Ondo East Local Government Area. In a public statement released by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, police operatives were swiftly deployed to the scene. At the location, officers found the lifeless body of the female victim, later identified as Faith. Law enforcement personnel subsequently evacuated the body to the State Specialist Hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy as part of the preliminary investigative process.

Initial investigation by the police revealed that assailants had forcibly entered the compound of a woman identified as Helen at the residential address. It was during this forced entry that Faith was reportedly attacked and inflicted with fatal machete wounds, resulting in her death. The nature and motive of the attack remain under scrutiny as part of the ongoing investigation.

Following a coordinated effort by detectives and crime experts from the police command, three suspects were arrested in connection with the case. They have been identified as Olayode, aged 27; Temitope, aged 32; and Bolaji, aged 22. All three individuals are male, and police have confirmed that they are currently in custody. At the time of reporting, they had provided statements that investigators described as useful in advancing the inquiry into the circumstances of the crime.

DSP Jimoh noted that the suspects will be charged in court once the investigation is concluded and all required legal processes are completed. This reflects the standard procedure in criminal investigations, where charges are preferred after sufficient evidence has been gathered and reviewed by prosecuting authorities.

To address community concerns following the violent incident, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State has called on members of the public to remain calm and continue with their daily activities without fear. Authorities have assured residents that security measures have been strengthened within the area and across the state to prevent similar attacks. Law enforcement officials reiterated their commitment to the protection of lives and property, emphasising that public cooperation with police efforts is essential to tackling crime.

Residents in Fagun Estate and neighbouring communities expressed shock and concern following the fatal attack, prompting calls for enhanced security patrols and community policing initiatives. The violence underscores broader anxieties in parts of southwestern Nigeria, where machete assaults and home invasions have periodically been reported, sometimes linked to robbery, personal disputes, or disputes over property.

Security analysts observing the situation have emphasised the importance of rapid investigative response and community collaboration with law enforcement in resolving violent crime cases. They argue that timely arrests and thorough investigation can play a vital role in deterring similar crimes and reinforcing public confidence in policing institutions.

Police have not disclosed whether additional suspects remain at large, but sources indicate that investigations are active and that forensic evidence, witness interviews, and other investigative techniques are being employed to establish a comprehensive understanding of the events leading up to the murder.

Law enforcement officials also urged members of the public to provide credible and actionable information to assist police work, highlighting that local intelligence often plays a critical role in preventing crime and assisting in criminal prosecutions.

The arrested suspects will face scrutiny as legal proceedings move forward, with the police and prosecuting authorities expected to take the case through the courts following completion of investigative activities.
