Kano, Nigeria — Nigerian Army troops from the 3 Brigade have successfully rescued eight of the ten people abducted by suspected terrorists during a wedding ceremony in Dabawa, Shanono Local Government Area of Kano State, military sources confirmed on Thursday.

According to officials cited by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the victims — reportedly guests at a wedding that came under attack on Wednesday — were seized by gunmen believed to be terrorists or armed bandits. Witnesses have said the attackers were dressed in military camouflage, a tactic sometimes used by criminal groups to sow confusion.

Upon receiving a distress alert, troops stationed at an ambush position along the Yankwada River line quickly mobilised to the scene. They later made contact with the fleeing assailants near Garu Village in neighbouring Katsina State and pursued them along the Katsina–Gidan Mutum Daya road axis, according to military sources.

During the operation, eight of the abducted victims were freed and have since been reunited with their families. Efforts are continuing to locate and rescue the remaining two abductees, the sources added, while security operations in the area remain active to prevent further attacks.

The incident highlights ongoing security challenges in parts of northern Nigeria, where banditry and abductions have remained persistent threats to communities and travellers alike.
