The Plateau State Police Command has arrested a bar owner and a woman in connection with the alleged trafficking of three underage girls from Plateau State to Ghana.

According to the police, the suspects were apprehended following intelligence reports that a trafficking network was recruiting young girls from rural communities under the pretext of offering them jobs and better living conditions abroad. Investigations revealed that the victims were allegedly transported to Ghana to be exploited for domestic labour and other illicit activities.

The Commissioner of Police said the arrests were made during a coordinated operation by officers of the Nigeria Police Force, adding that the rescued girls have been placed in protective custody and are receiving medical and psychosocial support.

Preliminary findings indicate that the bar owner allegedly provided accommodation and acted as a link between recruiters and transporters, while the second suspect was accused of arranging travel documents and logistics for the victims.

Police said the suspects will be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations. Authorities also urged parents and guardians to be vigilant and report suspicious movements of children to security agencies.

Human trafficking remains a major concern in Nigeria, with law enforcement agencies warning that traffickers often target vulnerable families with false promises of employment and education opportunities abroad.
