The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared Bulabari Henrietta Loolo of the All Progressives Congress winner of the Khana Constituency II by-election in Rivers State.

The Returning Officer announced that Loolo secured 7,647 votes to emerge victorious in the closely monitored poll conducted across affected wards in Khana Local Government Area. The by-election was organized to fill a vacant seat in the State House of Assembly.

According to the official results released at the collation centre, the APC candidate led by a significant margin over other participating parties. The African Action Alliance polled 46 votes, the New Nigeria Peoples Party recorded 37 votes, the Young Progressives Party secured 23 votes, while the Zenith Labour Party garnered 47 votes.

Electoral officials confirmed that voting and collation processes were completed in accordance with established guidelines. Party agents were present during the announcement of results, and security personnel maintained order at the collation venue.

Observers noted that turnout appeared moderate across several polling units, with voting described as generally peaceful. There were no immediate reports of widespread disruption during the exercise, though minor procedural delays were reported in some areas earlier in the day.

The declaration marks a political gain for the APC in Khana Constituency II, reinforcing its presence within the state’s legislative structure. Political analysts say the outcome may influence alignment dynamics within the Rivers State House of Assembly, particularly amid ongoing political recalibrations in the state.

INEC reiterated its commitment to credible electoral processes, stating that the by-election was conducted under statutory provisions governing mid-term vacancies. The commission urged stakeholders to channel any grievances through appropriate legal mechanisms.

With the results formally declared, attention is expected to shift toward certification procedures and the swearing-in process for the elected lawmaker.
