The Justice Department on Thursday released a sweeping 200‑page report accusing the Biden administration of systematically targeting Christians through biased prosecutions, discriminatory policies and a pervasive hostility toward traditional religious beliefs. The document, produced by the Trump‑led Task Force to Eradicate Anti‑Christian Bias, alleges that faith‑based Americans were treated as second‑class citizens under the previous administration.

“No American should live in fear that the federal government will punish them for their faith,” said Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, who chaired the task force. “As our report lays out, the Biden Administration’s actions devastated the lives of many Christian Americans. That devastation ended with President Trump.”

The report, which incorporates findings from 17 federal agencies and runs to over 300 pages of exhibits, charges that the Biden administration “zealously” worked to keep Christians out of the public square and even surveilled traditionalist Catholic priests. It claims that while private religious expression was tolerated, Christians were aggressively penalised when they acted on their beliefs in areas like abortion, gender ideology and sexual orientation.

The document singles out the Justice Department’s use of the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act (FACE Act) to prosecute pro‑life protesters, alleging that Biden officials coordinated with abortion‑rights groups to build dossiers on activists that included photographs of their minor children. It also points to a 2023 FBI memo that warned of “radical traditionalist” Catholics – a document the FBI later disavowed, but which the report says reflects a broader pattern of institutional bias.

The IRS is accused of denying tax‑exempt status to a Christian organisation because its “Bible teachings are typically affiliated with the Republican party and candidates.” The report also claims the Biden IRS applied the Johnson Amendment unevenly, investigating conservative‑leaning churches while ignoring open political endorsements from liberal congregations.

In the education sector, the task force points to a $37.7 million fine levied against Grand Canyon University, a Christian institution that was later rescinded by the Trump administration. It also criticises rules that, the report says, discriminated against Christian foster families and pressured schools to hide students’ gender transitions from parents.

The task force was established by a February 2025 executive order signed by President Donald Trump. Thursday’s document does not recommend new actions, but it serves as a comprehensive justification for the administration’s ongoing effort to roll back Biden‑era policies and to cast the previous administration as hostile to religious freedom.

Reaction to the report has followed party lines. Conservative Christian groups welcomed the findings. “It proves that the Biden team was out to punish Catholics whom they differed with,” said Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League. However, the Interfaith Alliance dismissed the report as “gross hypocrisy,” given the Trump administration’s own controversial statements about Pope Leo and a Truth Social post depicting the president as Jesus Christ.

The Biden White House had not immediately responded to the report’s allegations at the time of publication. Critics note that the task force was created by the Trump White House and that its findings are inherently political, aimed at justifying current policy shifts rather than providing an independent audit.

Nonetheless, the report lays out a detailed case that the federal government under President Biden engaged in a coordinated campaign against traditional Christian beliefs. Whether it will lead to lasting policy change or remain a partisan salvo in a deeply divided America remains to be seen. What is beyond dispute is that the battle over the place of faith in public life has entered a new and increasingly bitter chapter.
