The Kano State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps has apprehended three suspects in separate operations – two for vandalising power cables belonging to the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) and a third for stealing a tricycle while a female passenger was still on board.

According to a statement by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Ibrahim Abdullahi, the two cable vandals, Adamu Ibrahim, 25, and Abba Ado, 24, both residents of Roba in Dawakin Tofa Local Government Area, were arrested shortly after stealing 300 metres of aluminium conductor cables at Yunfawa village.

The duo struck on April 28, 2026, at about 8:00 a.m., when they climbed electric poles in the area and removed the cables belonging to KEDCO. However, they were intercepted by security operatives while attempting to cart away their loot.

They were later taken to the NSCDC office before being transferred to the command’s headquarters in Kano for interrogation. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to the crime and mentioned an accomplice who is still at large.

In a separate incident within the Kano metropolis, an 18‑year‑old suspect, Abdullahi Aminu, a resident of Unguwar Dabai in Dala Local Government Area, was arrested for stealing a tricycle in broad daylight. The incident occurred on May 6, 2026, when NSCDC personnel on routine patrol along the Kofar Waika/Kofar Dawanau dual carriageway witnessed the theft. According to the statement, the suspect forcefully boarded a parked tricycle with a female passenger on board while the rider was momentarily away delivering a dispatch.

The suspect then drove off recklessly, with the passenger still inside, before NSCDC operatives from the Dala Division rescued her and arrested the suspect.

The command noted that the suspect will be charged to court after the completion of investigations, while the duo arrested for vandalism are also in custody facing prosecution for their crime.

The corps reiterated its commitment to protecting critical national assets, including electricity infrastructure, and warned members of the public to desist from vandalism and other criminal acts.
