The Adamawa State Police Command has rescued a 54‑year‑old man, Alhaji Sidiki Isah, after he was abducted from his residence in Tambo Village, Girei Local Government Area, and held captive for an undisclosed period by a kidnapping gang that had demanded a ransom of N90 million for his release. The rescue operation, which took place on Thursday, 28 May 2026, in the rugged terrain of Luro Mountain, Song Local Government Area, resulted in the death of two suspected kidnappers and the recovery of two AK‑47 rifles, 17 rounds of live ammunition, a mobile phone, charms and other items.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Adamawa State Command, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed in a statement issued in Yola, the state capital, that the operation was carried out on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Kabir Umar Hassan. “The commissioner swiftly deployed operatives of the Anti‑Kidnapping Unit, using geospatial intelligence linked to the kidnappers, and immediately embarked on a rescue mission in collaboration with members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) to the identified hideout,” Nguroje said. The police noted that the mountain was strategically cordoned off, but upon sighting the combined security team, the kidnappers opened fire. “The security team responded professionally and successfully repelled the attackers,” Nguroje added. Two suspected kidnappers were neutralised during the exchange, while other members of the gang fled the scene with bullet wounds.

The victim was rescued unhurt and has since been reunited with his family. Nguroje said that the kidnapped victim was rescued safely without injury, and added that the area was still being combed by command operatives to track fleeing suspects and recover additional weapons. “The items recovered include two AK‑47 rifles, 17 rounds of live ammunition, a handset, charms and others,” the statement read. The Commissioner of Police, who commended the gallantry and professionalism displayed by the operatives and collaborating security stakeholders, further assured residents of sustained efforts to combat violent crimes across the state. He urged the public to provide timely and credible intelligence to security agencies.
