Troops of the 8 Division Tactical Headquarters, Operation FANSAN YANMA, in collaboration with local vigilantes, have arrested a suspected terrorist in Shanga Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The arrest was announced on Thursday, May 28, 2026, by security analyst and counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama, who shared details of the operation on his X handle. According to military sources cited in the report, the suspect was apprehended at approximately 11:00 a.m. on May 26, 2026, while attempting to board a vehicle near Tungan Giwa village in the area.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect resides in Rugan Dikko Shehu, a Fulani settlement located along the Geromasa-Yauri road. Security operatives, after examining the memory card in the suspect’s phone, discovered photographs allegedly showing suspected terrorists displaying sophisticated weapons. The suspect is currently in military custody as investigations continue, while troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA sustain ongoing operations aimed at denying terrorists freedom of movement and dismantling criminal networks in Kebbi State and other parts of the North-West.

The arrest follows earlier clearance operations in the area, including a raid on May 21, 2026, where troops overrun suspected terrorist enclaves in Shanga LGA, recovering arms and motorcycles.
