The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has deployed the Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 4 Headquarters, Makurdi, AIG Dankombo F. Morris, to Plateau State for an operational assessment visit following recent attacks in Bokkos Local Government Area. The deployment, announced in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Anietie Okokon Edem Iniedu, on Thursday, June 25, 2026, underscores the police leadership's commitment to addressing the recurring security challenges that have plagued communities in the North-Central state.
During the visit on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, AIG Morris visited Kawel Community in Mushere District, Bokkos Local Government Area, where he engaged community leaders, traditional authorities, and other critical stakeholders to assess the security situation and reinforce ongoing efforts aimed at restoring peace and stability in the affected communities. The visit to Kawel came just days after the community experienced violent attacks that resulted in loss of lives and destruction of property.
Conveying the condolences of the Inspector-General of Police and the Force Management Team, AIG Morris sympathised with families affected by the attacks and assured residents of the Nigeria Police Force's commitment to bringing the perpetrators to justice. He emphasised that all lawful measures are being deployed to apprehend those responsible and prevent further acts of violence. The AIG further disclosed that, on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, additional security assets have been deployed to Plateau State, particularly in the affected communities of Bokkos Local Government Area, to strengthen ongoing operations, enhance security presence, and support efforts towards the restoration of normalcy. He urged residents to remain law-abiding and refrain from reprisal actions capable of undermining ongoing peace and security efforts.
As part of the visit, AIG Morris paid courtesy visits to the Executive Governor of Plateau State, Barr. Caleb Mutfwang, and the Gbong Gwom Jos, His Royal Majesty Da Jacob Gyang Buba, CFR, where he conveyed the condolences of the Force leadership and reaffirmed the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to sustained collaboration with the State Government in addressing security challenges across the State. The engagements with the governor and the traditional ruler highlight the police's recognition of the critical role that both state authorities and traditional institutions play in maintaining peace and security in the region.
The attacks in Bokkos Local Government Area are the latest in a series of violent incidents that have plagued Plateau State, a region that has experienced recurring cycles of communal violence, farmer-herder conflicts, and banditry for over two decades. The state has witnessed numerous attacks on rural communities, often resulting in mass casualties, displacement, and destruction of property. The deployment of additional security assets to the affected communities reflects the Federal Government's determination to address the security challenges in the North-Central region, which has seen a surge in violence in recent months.
The Nigeria Police Force has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with relevant stakeholders and sister security agencies to protect lives and property, maintain public safety, and support lasting peace across Plateau State and the country at large. The Force has assured residents that all lawful measures are being deployed to apprehend those responsible for the attacks and prevent further acts of violence. The visit by AIG Morris and the deployment of additional security assets represent a significant step in the ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability to the affected communities, as well as a signal to criminal elements that the government and security agencies are determined to bring perpetrators to justice.
