The Gombe State Police Command has rescued an eight-year-old boy who was abducted in the Akko Local Government Area, and arrested four suspects — three men and a woman — following an intelligence-led operation that exposed the cruel manipulation of a family’s hope. The victim, whose name has been withheld, was taken from the streets of Akko on June 27, 2026, and held for three days before police operatives tracked down the syndicate and freed him unharmed.
A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, on Thursday, July 2, 2026, detailed the sequence of events. The boy’s father, Alhaji Muhammadu Nabadara, reported at the Akko Divisional Police Headquarters on June 28 at about 11:30 a.m. that his son had left home the previous day around 6:30 a.m. and never returned. Detectives immediately launched a coordinated search for the missing child.
The following day, June 29, the family received a telephone call purportedly revealing the child’s location. Hope flickered. But when police verified the tip, it turned out to be a lie — deliberately planted to mislead investigators. The false information could have cost the child his life, but detectives refused to abandon the trail.
On June 30, at about 10:00 a.m., operatives tracked down and arrested the first suspect, Abdullahi Mohammed, a resident of Jauro Musa Quarters in Kumo, Akko LGA. Under interrogation, Mohammed confessed to conspiring with three accomplices: Mohammed Magaji, 35; Sale Sale, 23; and Walida Ya’u, 18, all of Kagarawal Quarters in Gombe.
Following his confession, police moved swiftly and arrested the three other suspects. The boy was found in their custody, unharmed, and was immediately reunited with his family.
The Gombe State Police Command confirmed that investigations are ongoing, and all four suspects will be charged to court upon conclusion of the inquiry. The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Ahmed Chuso, commended the operatives for their professionalism, diligence, and swift response. He reassured residents of the command’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and property and urged the public to remain vigilant and continue providing credible and timely information to security agencies.
For the family of the abducted boy, the ordeal is over. But for the police, the message is clear: every lie, every conspiracy, and every attempt to profit from a child’s disappearance will be met with the full weight of the law.
