A 40-year-old man, identified simply as Felix and said to be from Cross River State, has been found dead in a guest house in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, following an alleged sexual encounter with a woman who has since disappeared. The incident occurred at Diko Guest House on Azikoro Road in the Ekeki area of the state capital on Wednesday morning, July 8, 2026.
According to eyewitness accounts, the deceased was discovered naked and unresponsive in his room by a cleaner, who immediately raised the alarm. The woman believed to have been with him before his death was nowhere to be found when the body was discovered. Witnesses also reported that several empty sachets of alcoholic drinks were found on the bedside table in the room before police officers arrived to secure and cordon off the scene.
Felix was well known locally as a mobile phone repairer, and news of his death drew crowds of traders from the nearby Seriake Dickson Shopping Complex, who gathered to express shock and sympathy. One female trader at the complex said: "We are all devastated by this. He was a familiar face here. This should serve as a warning to everyone to avoid taking unnecessary risks that could cost them their lives."
Bayelsa State Police Command operatives have arrested three people in connection with the incident as investigations get under way: the owner of Diko Guest House and the cleaner who found the body. The deceased's brother, Dennis, was also briefly held for questioning after he was found in possession of Felix's mobile phone. He told officers that a phone charging vendor had handed the device to him after staff at the guest house gave it to them when they could not contact Felix. Police released him after accepting his account of events.
Some local residents noted that Felix had previously been involved in an incident that drew public attention in the community. According to reports, the late Felix was known to be a "randy person" and was involved in a controversy last year when a truck pusher found him in an uncompromising position with his wife. The incident reportedly led the married truck pusher to leave Yenagoa in shame.
As of press time, police have not released an official statement confirming the cause of death, nor have they provided any update on efforts to trace the missing woman. A lady selling water at the market expressed shock over the death of the deceased and cautioned men against taking performance-enhancing drugs before sexual intercourse. Residents have expressed shock over the development, with some urging the public to avoid risky lifestyle choices as investigations continue.
