Nasarawa State Governor, Engineer Abdullahi Sule, has nominated eight new commissioners to serve in his administration for the remaining months of his tenure, in a move aimed at strengthening governance and enhancing service delivery across the state. The Speaker of the Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Dr. Danladi Jatau, announced the nominations on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, while reading the governor's letter during plenary in Lafia, the state capital.
The nominees, who will now undergo screening and confirmation by the State House of Assembly, are Muhammad Habeeb Nagogo from Wamba Local Government Area; Ahmed Yakubu Mohammed from Lafia LGA; Hon. Mohammed Baba Shehu from Keffi LGA; Hon. Mohammed Iyimoga Oyigye from Obi LGA; Adamu Rebecca Kpadji from Wamba LGA; Nawani Aboki from Doma LGA; Jibril Abdullahi Ibrahim, FCNA, from Nasarawa LGA; and Ashefo Daniel Paul, PhD, from Lafia LGA. The Speaker directed the Clerk of the House to notify the nominees to submit 30 copies of their curriculum vitae and appear for screening on Friday, August 7, 2026, at the State House of Assembly. The appointments are subject to the successful screening and confirmation of the nominees by the lawmakers.
The nominations come barely two weeks after the Nasarawa State Government announced a minor cabinet reshuffle involving six commissioners as part of efforts to reposition the administration for the delivery of its remaining agenda before the end of its tenure. On July 22, 2026, the Secretary to the State Government, Labaran Shuaibu Magaji (SAN), disclosed that the affected commissioners were asked to step aside as part of the cabinet restructuring. He listed the affected ministries as Works, Women Affairs, Information, Lands, Science and Technology, and Security and Other Sundry Matters. The latest nominations are expected to fill the vacancies created by the reshuffle and inject fresh energy into the state's executive council as Governor Sule seeks to accelerate the implementation of his administration's development agenda.
Governor Sule, who is in the final stretch of his tenure, has been repositioning his cabinet to ensure the completion of key projects and the consolidation of policy initiatives before he leaves office. The new commissioner nominees, drawn from various local government areas across the state, are expected to bring diverse expertise and grassroots connections to the administration. The Speaker, while announcing the nominations, urged the nominees to prepare adequately for the screening exercise, which will determine their suitability for the positions.
