The Media Team of the Executive Chairman of Jaba Local Government Council, in conjunction with the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Jaba Local Government Area, has dismissed allegations of intimidation made by the party's former Youth Leader, Mr Philip Chom, describing the claims as false and misleading. In a statement made available to journalists on Thursday, August 6, 2026, the media team said Mr Chom voluntarily resigned his membership of the APC through his Ward Chairman, Mr Mathias, and that his subsequent allegations were an attempt to cover up his political defection.
The statement further alleged that after his resignation, Chom included the names of several APC members from Nok and Nduya wards in a purported resignation list without their knowledge or consent. According to the statement, verification conducted by the respective ward chairmen revealed that the individuals whose names appeared on the list denied authorising Chom to resign on their behalf. It added that some of the affected members claimed they had no personal relationship with Chom and remained committed members of the APC in Jaba Local Government Area.
The media team said the affected party members have demanded that Chom publicly apologise for allegedly including their names in what they described as his personal political agenda. They also questioned why he allegedly used the names of party members across different wards without their consent if he possessed the political support he claimed. The statement also claimed that the affected individuals had recorded video disclaimers dissociating themselves from Chom and his actions, adding that copies of the videos from Nok and Jaba wards accompanied the statement.
It further stated that more than 10 of the affected individuals had submitted written complaints to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Kwoi Division, alleging that their names were used without their consent and requesting an investigation into the matter. According to the statement, the video disclaimers and police complaints contradict Chom's allegations and demonstrate that his claims were intended to mislead the public.
The media team called on Chom to withdraw the allegations against the Executive Chairman of Jaba Local Government Council and take responsibility for what it described as the unauthorised use of party members' names, noting that such actions could have legal implications. It maintained that the Executive Chairman remains committed to providing good governance, promoting peace, unity and sustainable development in Jaba Local Government Area, insisting that the administration would not be distracted by what it described as politically motivated propaganda.
The party also demanded that Chom immediately retract his allegations and tender a public apology to the Council Chairman and the affected party members whose names he allegedly used without authorisation. The Jaba APC leadership reaffirmed its confidence in the Council Chairman and urged party members to remain united and focused on the party's developmental agenda for the local government area. As of the time of this report, Mr Philip Chom had not publicly responded to the allegations or the demand for an apology.
