Armed bandits have struck again in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, abducting a father and his two children in a quiet night operation that has heightened fears of a worsening security crisis in the region. The victims, identified as Baba Lara, his son Sunday, and his daughter Lara, were taken from their residence around 8:30 p.m. on Thursday, August 6, 2026, at the Isaba axis, close to the Library in Odo-Ere.
According to eyewitness reports, the assailants carried out the operation without firing a single shot, moving stealthily into the area before picking up their victims and disappearing into the night. The incident marks the second abduction in Yagba West in less than a week, following the Oke-Ere abduction on Sunday, August 2, 2026. Residents noted that the same location had been targeted by kidnappers on a previous occasion, raising concerns over the inability of security agencies to secure the area.
As of the time of this report, security agencies had not issued an official statement on the incident, and efforts to confirm the abduction from police authorities were unsuccessful. The Kogi State Government has yet to comment on the development, which has further strained the confidence of residents in the region's security architecture. The abduction of a father and his two children underscores the escalating insecurity in Kogi State, where farming communities and rural settlements have become prime targets for kidnap-for-ransom syndicates.
