Suspected kidnappers have abducted two farmers in the Parubber community, located along the Ondo-Ife Road in the Ile-Oluji/Okeigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State, demanding a staggering N100 million ransom for their release. The victims were reportedly attacked on Monday afternoon, August 3, 2026, while working on their farms, according to an eyewitness who narrowly escaped the assault.
Pastor Yemi Omowale, who operates a piggery farm in the community, recounted the harrowing experience to journalists on Friday, August 7, 2026. He stated that he and the victims were working outside their farms around noon when he noticed a masked man armed with an AK-47 rifle moving towards one of the victims, identified as Adetan Adebanjo Gbemi. The attackers, who also wielded cutlasses, quickly overwhelmed the farmers and forcefully marched them into a nearby forest. Omowale said the abductors have since established contact with the wife of one of the victims, repeatedly calling to demand the N100 million ransom and asking how much she has been able to raise. “We’ve reported the incident to the police and the Amotekun Corps in our area. They still call the wife of the victims asking her how much she has raised. We’re begging the security agencies and the government to help us rescue our brother and sister unharmed,” Omowale pleaded.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, stated that a report of missing persons was received at the Oke-Igbo Divisional Police Headquarters. He disclosed that a joint security team, comprising operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad, local hunters, and vigilante groups, has been swiftly mobilised to the scene and has commenced a coordinated search-and-rescue operation. “Search and rescue operations are currently ongoing, with all available operational and intelligence resources being deployed to locate the victims and bring the perpetrators to justice,” Abayomi said. He assured the public that security personnel are intensifying efforts to secure the victims' safe release and urged residents to remain calm and vigilant, while encouraging anyone with useful information to report to the nearest police formation.
The abduction has heightened concerns over the deteriorating security situation in Ondo State, where farming communities have increasingly become targets for kidnap-for-ransom syndicates. As the joint security team continues its manhunt in the surrounding forests, the families of the victims and the entire Parubber community remain in agonising suspense, hoping for the safe return of their loved ones. The police have reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring the safe rescue of the victims and the arrest of those responsible for the abduction.
