Three kidnap victims, including a woman and two children, have been rescued by Forest Guards following a fierce gun battle with armed bandits in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State. The victims were abducted on the night of Thursday, August 6, 2026, at Iyana Saare by armed bandits, according to security sources.
Following the incident, security personnel swiftly mobilised and launched a coordinated operation to track down the kidnappers and secure the victims' release. During the operation, security operatives engaged the bandits in a gun battle at Daba Paapa, forcing the criminals to flee and abandon the victims. The rescued victims have been identified as Abdulwasiu Titilayo, Abdulwasiu Muhammad, and Abdulwasiu Jamiu.
Security personnel also recovered one live round of ammunition and one empty shell casing, believed to have been used by the suspected kidnappers during the exchange of gunfire. The successful rescue is being seen as another major breakthrough in the ongoing efforts of security agencies and local security formations to tackle kidnapping and banditry across Kwara South.
The Kwara State Police Command and other security agencies have intensified operations in the area to curb the rising wave of kidnappings and banditry that have plagued the state in recent months.
