Weeks after sustained media criticism over the deteriorating condition of the Ore–Okitipupa Road, Stone Reporters can exclusively confirm that rehabilitation work has finally commenced on the long-neglected highway, a development that comes amid mounting public frustration over the failure of elected officials to address the crisis.
Stone Reporters had, on July 22, 2026, reported on the deplorable state of the Ore–Okitipupa Road, describing it as a "death trap" that had become increasingly hazardous to motorists and residents because of years of neglect. The report highlighted that the poor condition of the road continues to threaten lives, damage vehicles and hinder economic activities across Ondo South. The publication also noted that Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and the member representing Okitipupa/Irele Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Jimi Odimayo, had been accused of failing to provide the leadership needed to address the situation, with critics insisting that elected officials should do more to ensure that critical infrastructure affecting their constituents receives the necessary attention.
The Ore–Okitipupa Road is a federal highway under the responsibility of the Federal Government. Over the years, residents, transport unions, traditional rulers and community leaders have repeatedly called for its reconstruction, citing its strategic importance to transportation, commerce and regional connectivity. The development suggests that the concerns raised by the media and other stakeholders may have contributed to renewed attention on the long-standing demand for the repair of the highway. The road serves as a major link between Ore, Okitipupa and several coastal communities, playing a vital role in the movement of agricultural produce, commercial goods and passengers. Its rehabilitation is expected to enhance public safety, facilitate economic activities, reduce transportation costs and improve the quality of life for thousands of residents who depend on the route every day.
