Two Reportedly Killed in Bukkuyum as Bandits Block Another Road, Shoot Driver in Zamfara

Two people have reportedly been killed in an attack by suspected armed bandits along the Adafka–Duhuwa road in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State, while a driver was reportedly shot during a separate road blockade in Gusau Local Government Area.

The two incidents were reported on Monday, October 19, 2026, raising further concerns about the safety of residents and motorists travelling through communities affected by armed violence in the state.

According to information received by Stone Reporters News, the first attack occurred on Monday morning along the Adafka–Duhuwa road in Bukkuyum Local Government Area, where suspected bandits reportedly killed two people.

The identities of the deceased, the precise circumstances of the attack and whether other travellers were affected have not yet been established. There was also no independently verified information about the number of attackers involved or whether security personnel responded to the incident.

In a separate development later on Monday, suspected bandits reportedly blocked the road between Lauwali Junction and Gusau town in Gusau Local Government Area.

During the incident, the armed men allegedly opened fire on a driver travelling along the route.

The driver's identity and medical condition remain unclear, and there is no confirmed information indicating whether the victim survived the shooting or was taken to a medical facility.

It has also not been established whether other motorists were attacked, abducted or forced to abandon their vehicles during the reported blockade.

Although both incidents occurred in Zamfara State on the same day, there is currently no evidence establishing that the attacks were carried out by the same armed group or were otherwise coordinated.

The reports come amid continuing security challenges affecting communities and highways across the state, particularly in Bukkuyum and Gusau Local Government Areas.

On October 19, the Zamfara State Police Command separately announced the rescue of two people abducted during an attack on Gana community in Bukkuyum Local Government Area the previous day. Police said the attackers had also stolen motorcycles and livestock before security personnel intervened.

That incident was distinct from the reported killings along the Adafka–Duhuwa road and should not be confused with Monday's allegations.

Communities in Bukkuyum have experienced other attacks in recent weeks, including an ambush involving traders travelling towards a local market. The incidents have heightened concerns about the security of rural roads used for transportation, agricultural activities and commerce.

The latest reports underscore the need for timely confirmation from security authorities and accurate information about the safety of the affected routes.

As of the time of this report, Stone Reporters News had not obtained an official statement from the Zamfara State Police Command or the military independently confirming the two reported deaths, the shooting of the driver or the circumstances surrounding either incident.

The identities of those responsible also remain unknown.

Further information is awaited from security authorities concerning the reported casualties, the condition of the injured driver and any measures taken to secure the affected roads.
