The Edo State Police Command has formally welcomed CP Patrick Daaor, mnips, as the 51st Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, following his assumption of duty on Monday, August 10, 2026. He officially takes over leadership of the command from AIG Monday Agbonika fdc, who has since assumed duty as the Assistant Inspector-General of Police supervising Edo and Delta Commands. The handover marks a significant transition for one of Nigeria's most security-challenged states, as Daaor brings nearly three decades of experience, including international peacekeeping missions, to the task of securing the South-South region.
CP Patrick Daaor was enlisted into the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police in 1994. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and International Studies from the University of Jos, as well as a Master's Degree in History and International Studies from Ignatius Ajuru University of Education, Port Harcourt. A highly experienced operational and administrative officer, Daaor has served in various capacities within and outside Nigeria. His career trajectory spans postings in Bauchi, Adamawa, Ondo, Kaduna, Ekiti, Rivers, Bayelsa, Abuja, and Lagos State Commands, as well as international assignments with the United Nations Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) and the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS).
He has held several key appointments, including Team Leader, Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), INTERPOL; Area Commander, Choba, Rivers State Command; Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, Ekiti State Command; Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Administration, Police Staff College, Jos; Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of International Investigation, INTERPOL; Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Bayelsa State Command; as well as various operational and divisional roles within the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command, among others. Prior to his appointment as the 51st Commissioner of Police, Edo State Command, he served as Commissioner of Police, Administration, Force Intelligence Department, Force Headquarters, Abuja.
His professional development includes several specialised courses, among them Combat Courses in Gwoza; Human Rights Training of Trainers Workshop; UNITAR Course on Understanding Conflict and Conflict Analysis; Tactical Leadership and Command Course; Digital Forensic Awareness Course; Military Observers Course at the Nigerian Army Peacekeeping Centre (NAPKC), Jaji; and the Strategic Leadership and Command Course (SLCC) at the National Institute for Police Studies (NIPS). Upon assumption of duty, Daaor brings extensive operational, investigative, intelligence, international policing, and leadership experience to bear in strengthening security across Edo State.
The new Commissioner of Police has reaffirmed his commitment to professional policing, intelligence-led operations, community partnership, respect for human rights, and the sustained fight against crime and criminality. He also called for the cooperation and support of the people of Edo State, traditional institutions, community leaders, stakeholders, and the media in building a safer and more secure state. The appointment comes at a critical time for Edo State, which has faced a range of security challenges in recent months, including incidents of kidnapping, cult-related violence, and political tensions ahead of future elections. Daaor's extensive experience in operational policing, intelligence gathering, and international peacekeeping is expected to bring a new approach to the command.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has emphasised the need for a proactive approach to crime prevention, community engagement and the integration of modern technology in policing. In January 2026, Egbetokun declared that the era of waiting for crime to occur before responding was over, announcing the deployment of Rapid Response Squads to all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, as well as the expansion of the Police Special Forces and the revival of the Police Mobile Force. The IGP had also emphasised the importance of training and retraining officers, intelligence-led operations, inter-agency collaboration and leveraging technology to tackle crime more effectively. As the Edo State Police Command enters a new chapter under CP Patrick Daaor, the expectations of residents and stakeholders are high. His combination of operational experience, international exposure, and commitment to human rights could prove decisive in addressing the state's security challenges.
