The National Association of Nigerian Students has thrown open the doors of opportunity for the nation's brightest young minds, announcing the commencement of applications for the 2026 edition of its innovation and entrepreneurship competition, NANSInnovate 2026. The initiative, unveiled on Monday, August 10, 2026, is designed to bridge the yawning gap between brilliant ideas and real-world success, offering Nigerian students a national platform to access investors, industry experts and funding opportunities that could transform their dreams into thriving businesses.
The NANS National President, Comrade Akinteye Afeez, popularly known as BABTEE, made the announcement in a statement, urging students across the country to seize the opportunity. Afeez said the initiative was conceived to address a persistent challenge faced by young Nigerians whose innovative ideas often fail to progress beyond the classroom due to limited opportunities and a lack of access to funding. "Across our campuses are brilliant young Nigerians with ideas that can solve problems, create jobs and build successful businesses. Unfortunately, many of these ideas never go beyond the classroom because of limited opportunities and access to funding," he said.
The competition, which is open to eligible students nationwide, is designed to identify and support promising student entrepreneurs by providing them with a platform to pitch their ideas before a panel of investors, business leaders and industry experts. Afeez described NANSInnovate 2026 as the association's response to the challenge of untapped potential. "NANSInnovate 2026 is our response to that challenge. We are providing a national platform where innovation will be rewarded, creativity will be encouraged and promising student entrepreneurs will receive the support they need to grow," he said.
At the end of the competition, the top 20 student entrepreneurs will walk away with cash prizes worth millions of naira to support and expand their businesses. The NANS president called on every Nigerian student with a business idea or an existing venture to take advantage of the programme, describing it as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to present their ideas before investors and industry experts from across the country. "This is your chance to present your ideas before investors, business leaders and industry experts from across the country. At the end of the competition, the top 20 student entrepreneurs will go home with cash prizes worth millions of naira to support and expand their businesses," Afeez declared.
Interested students can register through the NANS innovation platform at grants.nanshq.org. The application portal is now open, and students are encouraged to submit their entries promptly. The initiative has been hailed as a significant step towards addressing Nigeria's youth unemployment crisis and fostering a culture of innovation and entrepreneurship among the country's future leaders.
