Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have delivered a devastating blow to terrorist networks in Zamfara and Kaduna States, neutralising several fighters and intercepting a massive cache of arms and ammunition in two separate intelligence-led operations conducted on Wednesday, September 2, 2026.

In Zamfara State, troops of Sector 2, acting on credible intelligence about the movement of terrorists from the Fakai General Area towards Kwanar Jolof and Tashar Dole in Shinkafi and Zurmi Local Government Areas, laid a deadly ambush at Kwanar Jolof. The troops engaged the terrorists, neutralising scores of them, while others fled in disarray with varying degrees of injuries. During the exploitation of the area, the troops recovered a significant arsenal, including one Rocket-Propelled Grenade (RPG) launcher, one RPG bomb, one AK-47 rifle, six AK-47 magazines, 106 rounds of ammunition, and a motorcycle.

In a separate operation on the same day, troops of Sector 1 intercepted a vehicle at a snap checkpoint along the Saulawa–Zaria Road in Kaduna State. The operation took a dramatic turn when one of the passengers resisted the search of his bag and attempted to flee after being compelled to open it. The troops pursued and neutralised the suspect. A subsequent search of the bag uncovered 793 rounds of ammunition ingeniously concealed inside a bag of gari (cassava flakes). The vehicle and its driver have been taken into military custody for further investigation.

The Media Information Officer of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, stated that the operations were part of sustained offensive efforts to dismantle terrorist networks, disrupt the flow of arms and ammunition, and deny terrorists freedom of action across the Joint Operations Area. He assured that troops remain resolute in the fight against terrorism and committed to restoring lasting peace in affected communities.

The recovery of an RPG launcher and bomb, alongside a substantial quantity of ammunition, represents a major disruption to the terrorists' logistics and supply chain. The interception of nearly 800 rounds of ammunition hidden in a food item underscores the increasingly sophisticated methods employed by criminal networks to evade detection. The successful operations highlight the effectiveness of intelligence-driven actions and the growing capability of Nigerian security forces to strike at the heart of terrorist infrastructure in the North-West. As one military source noted, sustained pressure on these networks is vital to weakening their ability to operate across the region, and this latest victory is a clear signal that the troops are determined to keep the heat on until lasting peace is restored.
