A resident of Egbe in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, popularly known as Italo Tailor, has reportedly been found dead weeks after he was allegedly abducted by armed bandits while working on his farm.
According to information circulating within the community, Tailor was abducted on Friday, September 11, 2026, while waiting for a NAPEP tricycle to transport his harvested cassava home.
The attackers reportedly arrived at the farm and took him away before he could return home. His abduction raised concerns among residents, particularly farmers who depend on their farms for their livelihoods.
His body was reportedly discovered around the Airstrip area of Egbe on Monday, October 12, nearly a month after the reported abduction. He was subsequently buried the same day, according to the account provided by local sources.
The circumstances surrounding his death, including whether he was killed shortly after the abduction or died later in captivity, remain unclear. It was also not independently established whether a ransom was demanded or whether security agencies had made any arrests in connection with the incident.
The reported death has renewed concerns about insecurity in Egbe and neighbouring communities in Yagba West, where residents have faced repeated cases of kidnapping and attacks on rural roads and farming settlements.
The situation has raised fears among farmers and traders who must travel through isolated areas to work, transport produce and earn a living.
Residents have continued to call on the relevant authorities and security agencies to strengthen protection for farming communities, improve surveillance and take effective measures to prevent further abductions.
As of the time of filing this report, no independent confirmation of Tailor’s death or an official statement from the police had been located. The details surrounding the incident therefore remain subject to further verification.
