The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Oyo State Sector Command, has confirmed the death of a female National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member in a road crash involving an articulated truck and a motorcycle in Ibadan.
The fatal accident occurred on Monday, October 12, 2026, around Agodi Gardens in the Ibadan metropolis, leaving the corps member dead and the motorcycle rider with a fractured leg.
The FRSC Sector Commander in Oyo State, Corps Commander Kehinde Dahunsi, confirmed the incident in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Dahunsi said emergency responders arrived at the scene and evacuated the victims. The deceased corps member’s body was taken to the State Hospital morgue, while the injured motorcycle rider was rushed to the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, for medical treatment.
The sector commander said the identity and other personal details of the deceased could not be established during the rescue operation.
“We recorded a traffic crash today around Agodi Gardens within the Ibadan metropolis. It involved a truck and a motorcycle carrying a corps member,” he said.
He added that the rider sustained a fracture in his leg in the incident.
Meanwhile, Abimbola Faniyi, the NYSC Public Relations Officer in Oyo State, said efforts were ongoing to identify the deceased and establish details of her Place of Primary Assignment.
Eyewitnesses cited in separate media reports alleged that the truck had earlier been involved in collisions around the Sango area before proceeding towards Agodi Gardens, where it struck the motorcycle carrying the corps member.
Some witnesses further alleged that the driver was attempting to flee after the earlier collisions. However, the circumstances surrounding the earlier incidents and the driver’s actions had not been independently established in the official account.
The crash disrupted traffic around the affected areas as emergency responders attended to victims and motorists were diverted.
The incident has renewed concerns about road safety and the dangers posed by heavy-duty vehicles on busy urban roads. Authorities are expected to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash.
