Police officers attached to the Ekiti State Command who were captured in a viral video allegedly demanding ₦20,000 from a motorcyclist are facing disciplinary proceedings at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, following a directive by the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu.
The Police Complaint Response Unit disclosed the development on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, in an update on the case, identified by complaint tracking number CRU100953.
According to the unit, the officers have been brought to its office at the Force Headquarters to undergo disciplinary action over their alleged conduct during the encounter with the motorcyclist.
The development follows a complaint lodged on October 6 by representatives of the Biker Association, Federal University Oye-Ekiti chapter, concerning the alleged extortion and intimidation of one of its members.
In a statement issued on October 7, the Ekiti State Police Command said the motorcyclist was reportedly travelling alone from Itapa to Ikole-Ekiti when he was intercepted by a police patrol team.
The complainants alleged that the officers demanded money from the rider under circumstances they considered improper.
A video of the encounter subsequently circulated on social media, showing a confrontation between the motorcyclist and a police officer during a roadworthiness check. The footage sparked reactions over the conduct of the officers and the alleged demand for ₦20,000.
The Ekiti State Police Command said it had identified the officers involved and taken them into custody for questioning as part of an investigation into allegations of extortion, intimidation, disobedience to lawful orders and other acts of unprofessional conduct.
The investigation was subsequently transferred to the State Police Headquarters in Ado-Ekiti for a comprehensive and impartial probe.
The Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Falade Micheal, directed that the officers be subjected to appropriate disciplinary procedures in line with police regulations, subject to the findings of the investigation.
The command condemned extortion, intimidation and abuse of authority, stressing that no police officer was authorised to demand or collect money from members of the public while carrying out legitimate police duties.
However, the police have yet to announce the final outcome of the investigation or specify the sanctions the officers may face.
The latest development places the case before the Police Complaint Response Unit in Abuja as authorities continue to address allegations of misconduct involving the officers.
The allegations have not yet been resolved through a final disciplinary decision publicly announced by the police.
