Suspected bandits have reportedly invaded Fanga town in Mashegu Local Government Area of Niger State, killing residents, abducting villagers and destroying property in another attack on communities in the state.

According to the alert circulating about the incident, the attackers stormed Fanga on Monday afternoon, killing two people, setting houses and shops ablaze, and abducting several residents, including women and children.

However, Stone Reporters News could not independently verify the reported death toll of two, the alleged burning of houses and shops, or the number of people abducted as of the time of this report.

Fanga has previously experienced attacks by suspected armed bandits. Reports published on July 30 and 31, 2026, said gunmen invaded the community in broad daylight, killed one resident, shot several others, abducted four people and looted shops. Residents also alleged that the community had paid millions of naira in levies demanded by the attackers but continued to face violence.

The repeated attacks have heightened concerns about the safety of rural communities in Mashegu, where residents have previously reported kidnappings, threats and disruptions to farming activities.

As of the time of filing this report, no independently verified statement from the Niger State Police Command or the state government confirming the latest reported attack and casualty figures was available.

The latest report, if confirmed, would add to the continuing security challenges facing rural communities in Niger State, with residents requiring urgent protection against further attacks and abductions.
