The Osun State Police Command has arrested six suspected cultists during intelligence-led raids on criminal hideouts in Osogbo, the state capital, as security operatives intensify efforts to curb cult-related violence and other criminal activities.

The police spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed the arrests in a statement on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, saying the operations followed directives from the Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Gotan Zungura, to intensify raids on identified black spots and suspected criminal hideouts.

The suspects were identified as Ajibade Lateef, 21; Olaniyi Kabiru, 27; Ifaleke Ifedeji, 18; Tajudeen Wasiu, 35; Abideen Babatunde, 35; and Opeyemi Lukman, 18.

According to the police, preliminary investigations indicated that the suspects were allegedly members of the Eiye Confraternity and were suspected of belonging to a criminal gang accused of terrorising residents around the Mackay Junction area of Osogbo.

The command said items recovered during the operations included suspected criminal charms, illicit drugs and cash believed to be proceeds of drug-related activities.

Police disclosed that the suspects had been charged to court, while investigations and further operations were continuing to identify and apprehend other individuals allegedly involved in cultism, drug-related offences and other crimes.

The Commissioner of Police reiterated the command’s determination to tackle criminal activities across the state, warning that Osun would not serve as a safe haven for cultists, drug peddlers or other suspected criminals.

The command also urged parents, guardians, community leaders and residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements or criminal activities to the nearest police station or through established police emergency channels.

The arrests come amid renewed concerns over cult-related violence in Osogbo, following reports that two people were killed in an incident involving suspected rival cult groups in the town.

The police said raids on identified criminal hideouts would continue as part of efforts to protect lives and property and improve security across Osun State.
