The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested three suspects in two separate incidents involving the alleged possession of Indian hemp and the alleged defilement of a seven-year-old girl.
The arrests were announced on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib, who said the operations formed part of ongoing efforts to combat crime across the state.
According to the police, two men, Iliyasu Yakubu, 27, and Zakariya Ibrahim, 25, were arrested at about 2:10 a.m. on October 12 during a routine patrol in Duguri town.
The police alleged that Yakubu was found in possession of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, while Ibrahim was identified as his alleged supplier. Both men are residents of Duguri.
The suspected substance was recovered, and investigations into the case are ongoing.
In a separate incident, police arrested 20-year-old Mujahid Danjuma over the alleged defilement of a seven-year-old girl in the Bundot area of Dass Local Government Area.
The command said the victim’s mother reported the incident at the Dass Divisional Police Headquarters on September 28. The alleged offence reportedly occurred on September 25.
According to the police account, the suspect allegedly lured the child into an unfinished building before committing the offence. The girl was subsequently taken to the General Hospital in Dass for medical examination.
Police said Danjuma fled after the alleged incident but was arrested in the early hours of October 13 following sustained follow-up and intelligence-led efforts.
The police spokesperson disclosed that all three suspects would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation and possible prosecution.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities and urged parents and guardians to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
The suspects’ arrests do not amount to convictions, and the allegations remain subject to investigation and judicial determination.
