Katsina State Bolsters Security with 8 New APC Armored Vehicles

The Katsina State Government has further strengthened its security architecture with the launch of 8 newly procured Armored Personnel Carriers (APCs), aimed at improving mobility, boosting operational capacity, and safeguarding vulnerable communities across the state.

Speaking after a State Security Council meeting, Katsina State Acting Governor, Malam Faruk Lawal Jobe, reaffirmed the administration’s unwavering commitment to the protection of lives and property, describing the recent attack in Gidan Mantau, Karfi Ward, Malumfashi LGA as “sad and unfortunate.”

Governor Jobe noted that despite the setback, Katsina remains resolute in the fight against banditry.

“The battle against banditry is not over until it is won. We will not be distracted by cowardly attacks targeting innocent citizens. Our communities have shown courage, resisting and overpowering attackers, ensuring their efforts to disrupt peace failed,” he stated.

The Acting Governor confirmed that 76 kidnapped victims were rescued in coordinated operations earlier in the day, alongside others who managed to escape during abduction attempts. He also highlighted ongoing collaboration with the federal government, noting the intervention of members of the National Assembly who recently engaged the Chief of Defence Staff and Chief of Army Staff. The Chief of Army Staff is expected to visit Katsina for an on-ground security assessment.

Governor Jobe stressed the importance of federal support:

“Most bandits have retreated into the bush. The terrain is challenging, requiring combined efforts from the Nigerian Army and Air Force. With timely intelligence from our communities, we will continue operations until Katsina is fully secure.”

Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Nasiru Muazu Danmusa, who briefed journalists after the meeting, expressed sympathy for the victims and praised the joint security response. He confirmed that the state has invested over ₦36 billion in security assets, making Katsina one of the best equipped in the region with 43 APC armored carriers, including the 8 newly delivered vehicles.

Danmusa emphasized that the government is adopting both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies, while urging citizens to support the fight:

“Security is community-driven. We call on everyone to play their part. Our doors remain open for collaboration, and transparency will guide all government investments.”

Also present at the briefing were the Commissioner of Information, Dr. Salisu Zango, the Director-General of Media, Maiwada Dan Mallam, and other senior officials.

The Acting Governor concluded with a message of assurance:

“Our resolve is firm. We will not relent until Katsina State is safe for all.”

The delivery of 8 new APCs, as part of Katsina State’s broader security investment, signals a serious commitment to combating banditry and organized crime. By increasing operational mobility and firepower, the government is better positioned to respond to attacks in hard-to-reach areas, which have historically been vulnerable due to poor infrastructure and challenging terrain.

The move also demonstrates integrated security planning, combining local vigilante networks, community intelligence, and federal military support. This multi-layered approach could serve as a model for other northern states struggling with similar security challenges.

Additionally, the government’s transparency about expenditures (₦36 billion invested in security) and the emphasis on community participation could enhance public trust in security institutions, which is critical in regions where citizens have previously felt abandoned during bandit attacks.

Finally, by publicly linking security improvements with citizen involvement and federal collaboration, Katsina is sending a strong signal to criminal elements: law enforcement is coordinated, capable, and resolute. If sustained, this approach may not only reduce attacks but also create an environment conducive to economic development, investment, and social stability in the state.
