Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, recently hosted colleagues from the Peoples Democratic Party Governors’ Forum (PDP-GF) and other party leaders in Gusau, the state capital, for a strategic meeting aimed at addressing key national and party issues.

The meeting focused on critical topics including the state of the nation, security challenges, democracy, and efforts to reposition the PDP ahead of the upcoming National Convention. At the conclusion, a communiqué was issued, summarizing the forum’s deliberations, and the chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum conducted a press briefing.

Governor Lawal expressed gratitude to fellow governors in attendance:

  • Bauchi: H.E. Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed

  • Oyo: H.E. Seyi Makinde

  • Adamawa: H.E. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri

  • Bayelsa: H.E. Douye Diri

  • Osun: H.E. Ademola Adeleke

He also thanked the chairman and members of the PDP Board of Trustees, along with other party leaders present, for their participation and commitment to the party’s goals.

“Thank you all for coming to the land of farming,” Governor Lawal remarked, highlighting the warmth of the reception in Zamfara.

The strategic meeting comes at a critical juncture as the PDP seeks to strengthen its internal cohesion, address security challenges, and present a united front ahead of future elections. By bringing together governors from diverse regions, the forum reinforces collaboration across states and provides a platform to discuss policy coordination, governance challenges, and party revitalization strategies.

The engagement in Gusau also reflects the importance of regional inclusivity, ensuring that party strategies incorporate perspectives from both northern and southern states, thereby promoting unity and readiness for national political contests.

In the broader context, such high-level gatherings among party leaders are essential for democracy consolidation, as they allow dialogue on national security, governance, and democratic processes. They also serve to align state-level experiences with national strategies, strengthening the party’s capacity to address citizen concerns and prepare for electoral competitions.

The PDP Governors’ Forum meeting in Gusau underscores the party’s commitment to strategic planning, internal cohesion, and democratic governance. By fostering collaboration among governors and party leaders, the PDP aims to reposition itself as a responsive, united, and effective political force, capable of addressing national challenges while preparing for a successful National Convention.
