Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has successfully concluded a six-month Town Square Meeting and Empowerment Series, culminating in a grand finale at Nsit Ubium Council Secretariat, Ikot Edibon, with a focus on citizen empowerment, youth development, and inclusive governance.

Governor Eno revealed that no fewer than 7,688 citizens across the state have benefited from grants for farming, trading, equipment support, cars, and mini-buses totaling over โ‚ฆ10 billion. The program, which began in Abak Federal Constituency with 833 beneficiaries, subsequently extended to Oron (980), Eket (1,076), Ikot Ekpene (664), Ikot Abasi (540), Ukanafun (411), Itu (677), Uyo (1,187), Ikono (476), and Etinan (844 beneficiaries). The Etinan beneficiaries received grants totaling โ‚ฆ361,450,000.

All beneficiaries were selected through the ARISE portal, and Governor Eno encouraged youths to take advantage of the platform to access government initiatives in procurement, employment, and empowerment programs, ensuring a level playing field for all citizens, irrespective of social status.

The Governor emphasized that although the Town Square meetings have concluded, development projects and citizen engagement will continue, with the needs of all constituencies incorporated into the 2026 budget. Highlights of ongoing and planned initiatives include:

  • Youth centers in all local government areas.

  • Official residences for local government chairmen to ensure they reside within their communities.

  • Construction of a dual carriageway from Afaha Offiong in Nsit Ibom LGA to Itreto in Nsit Ubium, facilitated by the Commissioner for Works and Fire Service, Prof. Eno Ibanga.

Governor Eno also called on citizens to participate in the APC membership registration/revalidation and the Continuous Voter Registration by INEC, urging youths to respect leadership and maintain unity in support of President Tinubu, Godswill Akpabio, and his return to Hilltop Mansion in 2027.

The grand finale attracted notable dignitaries and traditional leaders, including:

  • Secretary to the State Government, Prince Enobong Uwah, who hailed the event as a homecoming for a worthy son of Etinan Federal Constituency.

  • Oku Ibom Ibibio and President-General of Akwa Ibom State Supreme Council of Traditional Rulers, HRM Ntenyin (Dr) Solomon Etuk, praised the Governor’s impactful service.

  • Members of the State Executive Council and local government chairmen expressed gratitude for Governor Eno’s people-centric governance and assured ongoing support.

The APC State Chairman, Obong Stephen Ntukekpo, highlighted the large turnout as a vote of confidence for Governor Eno. The event culminated in the adoption of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Umo Eno as sole candidates for the 2027 elections.

Governor Eno’s Town Square empowerment series demonstrates a commitment to inclusive governance, economic empowerment, and youth development. By providing financial support, equipment, and business resources, the initiative enhances livelihoods, reduces unemployment, and strengthens community trust in government programs.

The series also reflects the integration of technology in governance through the ARISE portal, ensuring transparent and equitable access to government benefits while promoting citizen participation.

The completion of the six-month Town Square series marks a milestone in Akwa Ibom State’s citizen-focused governance, benefiting thousands across all federal constituencies. By combining empowerment, infrastructure development, and political engagement, Governor Umo Eno has reinforced his administration’s commitment to equity, progress, and sustainable development, setting the stage for continued growth and stability in the state ahead of the 2027 elections.
