
Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago has called on residents across Niger State to embrace religious tolerance and foster unity, emphasizing that collaboration and mutual respect are key drivers for societal growth and development.
The governor delivered the message during the 114th anniversary and Thanksgiving service of the First Baptist Church Minna, where he was represented by the Deputy Speaker of the Niger State House of Assembly, Mrs. Afiniki Eunice Dauda. He highlighted that the progress a society can achieve is limitless when communities coexist peacefully and respect one another’s beliefs.
Congratulating the church on its 114 years of service, Governor Bago described it as a testament to God’s grace and a beacon of hope and light for many. He encouraged members to promote interfaith harmony through love, honesty, and service to humanity while reaffirming his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance.
The Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umar Faruk Bahago, represented by the Kauran Minna, Mr. Peterson Kaura, lauded Christians in his domain for demonstrating peace and good character, urging them to maintain these values.
Rev. Dr. Odadeyi, the presiding pastor of First Baptist Church Minna, alongside representatives of the Niger/Kebbi Baptist Conference, commended Governor Bago for his commitment to Christians and encouraged continued support for his administration. Other dignitaries, including the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, Dr. Jonathan Wasa; Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Jonathan Vatsa; and Coordinator of Christian Affairs, Lawrence Mohammed Isa, praised the governor for his accomplishments across sectors.
The Nigerian Christian Youths in Politics, Niger State Chapter, used the occasion to endorse Governor Bago for a second term in office, citing his inclusive style of leadership. During the event, the governor received an Outstanding Leadership Award in recognition of his dedication to the “New Niger” agenda and support for Christians in the state. Additionally, the Emir of Minna was honored with an Outstanding Fatherly Award for his impactful role in society.
The anniversary celebrations reinforced the importance of religious tolerance and community collaboration as pillars for the continued development and unity of Niger State.
