The Force Commander of the Multi-National Joint Task Force (MNJTF), Major General Godwin Mutkut, and the Theatre Commander of Joint Task Force North East Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK), Major General Abdulsalam Abubakar, conducted a joint operational assessment visit to Sector 3 of OPHK in Baga, Borno State on Wednesday.
The visit aimed to appraise ongoing counter-terrorism operations in the Lake Chad waterways and ensure the optimal use of platforms and equipment deployed in the theatre.
The Lake Chad Basin remains a strategic yet volatile region, facing persistent threats from terrorist groups and insurgents. Ensuring security in waterways is essential not only for military operations but also for safeguarding farming and fishing activities, which are crucial to local livelihoods.
The assessment visit underscores the continued commitment of MNJTF and OPHK to combat terrorism while protecting communities and promoting stability in the region.

Maj Gen Mutkut stressed that the stability of the Lake Chad Basin is a collective interest of all member nations, urging commanders to maintain vigilance and effective coordination.
Maj Gen Abubakar commended the troops’ efforts, urging maximum alertness, professionalism, and aggressive posture in counter-terrorism operations. He highlighted the critical importance of securing farming and fishing activities, tasking commanders to prioritize welfare, communication, and judicious use of operational resources.
The visit included a tour of operational facilities, signing of the visitors’ book, exchange of souvenirs, and a group photograph, attended by Component and Formation Commanders, senior staff officers, and Brigadier General Suleiman Tilawan, Commander, Sector 3 OPHK.
The joint assessment reflects the MNJTF and OPHK’s broader strategic approach to regional security, combining military operations with community protection and economic stability initiatives.
