Ondo State Governor, Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has launched a landmark 90-kilometre road development initiative, covering 5 kilometres in each of the state’s 18 Local Government Areas (LGAs). The project is set to transform communities, enhance connectivity, and unlock new economic opportunities across the state.
The roads, spread evenly across all LGAs, are designed to improve access to markets, schools, healthcare centres, and rural communities. By easing transportation bottlenecks, the initiative is expected to boost agricultural productivity, promote trade, and enhance the movement of goods and people.
Residents in previously neglected areas will now have access to better infrastructure, reducing travel times and attracting private investment. The Governor emphasized that the project reflects his administration’s resolve to deliver inclusive governance, ensuring no community is left behind.
For years, Ondo communities have grappled with deplorable road networks, which have hindered development and restricted rural farmers from reaching urban markets. Previous administrations made interventions in phases, but many local governments continued to suffer from poor access roads.
This latest initiative signals a statewide approach, ensuring equal attention to every LGA rather than concentrating development in urban centres alone.
The road development is not only an infrastructure project but also a driver of economic renewal. Roads are often considered the backbone of development, as they connect people to opportunities, reduce poverty, and open up regions for investment.
By investing in 90km of new roads, Ondo State is positioning itself for sustainable economic growth. Improved connectivity is expected to reduce post-harvest losses, lower transportation costs, and make rural communities more attractive for agribusiness and small enterprises.
In addition, the project reflects a broader trend in Nigeria where state governments are focusing on infrastructural renewal as a foundation for inclusive development. It aligns with national calls for sub-national governments to drive growth through targeted investments in infrastructure.
Governor Aiyedatiwa’s 90km road project marks a bold step toward inclusive governance and economic transformation. Beyond the asphalt and concrete, the initiative represents a commitment to equity, ensuring every local government shares in the dividends of democracy.
If fully realized, the project will not only improve mobility but also uplift communities, empower farmers, and lay the groundwork for long-term prosperity across Ondo State.
