Troops of the 12 Brigade of the Nigerian Army have neutralized a suspected terrorist during a fighting patrol in the Odoape–Adankolo Forest, located within Kabba/Bunu Local Government Area of Kogi State. The operation took place at approximately 2:00 p.m. on March 23, 2026, when the patrol team encountered an individual exhibiting suspicious movements while on routine security operations.
Military sources reported that the suspect attempted to flee upon sighting the patrol, prompting troops to engage in a brief but decisive confrontation. The engagement resulted in the neutralization of the individual, who was found to be armed and considered a potential threat to the patrol and surrounding communities.
The operation forms part of the 12 Brigade’s ongoing campaign to disrupt and degrade the capabilities of criminal and extremist elements operating in forested areas of Kogi State. Security sources indicated that the suspect was allegedly involved in providing intelligence and logistical support to criminal networks, including groups involved in kidnappings and cattle rustling.
Following the neutralization, troops conducted area sweeps to ensure that no other suspects or weapons remained in the vicinity. Materials recovered during the operation are being analyzed by military intelligence to identify possible accomplices and further threats in the region.
Residents of Kabba/Bunu expressed relief over the operation, noting that the area has faced repeated security challenges, including kidnappings, armed raids, and cattle rustling.
