Ebonyi Governor Inaugurates 15-Member Economic Committee to Drive Industrialisation

Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has inaugurated a 15-member Economic Committee tasked with steering the State’s industrialisation agenda. The committee is chaired by former Minister of Power, Professor Barth Nnaji, and comprises economists, industrialists, and technocrats with extensive experience in their respective fields.

Other members include Chief Ben Oka, Chief Mrs. Augustina Nwaoma Ekuma, Dr. Joe Abah, High Chief Ituma Chukwuemeka Enviable, Gen. Abel Obi Umahi, Chief Chibuike Orogwu, Chief Dominic Nwibo, Chief Elechi Innocent Ojiugwo, Anayo Omoke, Dr. Mark Abani, High Chief Ifeanyi Clement Okorie, Dr. Edward Nkwegu, Mr. Mike Chukwu, while Associate Prof. Ben Uruchi Odoh will serve as Secretary.

In his charge to the committee, Governor Nwifuru highlighted the need to address erratic power supply, harness solid minerals, and accelerate the State’s industrialisation drive. He urged members to leverage their expertise to guide government policies and initiatives.

“People will commend us for bringing industrialists and technocrats to guide us in the development of our dear State. Our manifesto, the People's Charter of Needs, emphasises industrialisation and business development,” the Governor said.

He specifically tasked the committee with providing guidance on reactivating NIGERCEM, establishing a new cement factory, and setting up a salt production facility. On energy challenges, Governor Nwifuru noted, “We are the only State without the required power for industrialisation. We want you to address this issue through your recommendations.”

Governor Nwifuru also pointed out that an industrial zone has been created, encouraging the committee to leverage its capacity to attract and establish industries in the area.

In his remarks, Professor Barth Nnaji, Committee Chairman, praised Governor Nwifuru as a visionary leader with the courage and boldness to drive the State’s development agenda.

Dr. Monday Uzor, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, reported that the inauguration reflects the administration’s commitment to economic growth, industrialisation, and sustainable development in Ebonyi State.
