
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, received a high-powered delegation from the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council (CWEIC), led by its Chairman, Lord Marland of Odstock, at Lagos House, Marina.
The courtesy visit provided a platform for Lagos State and the CWEIC to deepen ties around trade, investment, and innovation, with discussions centered on unlocking greater opportunities for collaboration within the Commonwealth business community.
Governor Sanwo-Olu, while welcoming the delegation, reaffirmed Lagos’ position as Nigeria’s economic nerve center and Africa’s investment gateway, stressing the state’s readiness to partner with global organizations to foster innovation, sustainable growth, and prosperity for its residents.
Lord Marland, in his remarks, praised the state government’s strides in infrastructure, innovation, and governance, describing Lagos as a critical hub for Commonwealth investors. He emphasized CWEIC’s commitment to facilitating stronger trade links and investment partnerships that would further integrate Lagos into the Commonwealth’s global economic network.
The delegation included notable figures such as Sarva Ameresekere, Group Chairman of George Steuart & Company; John Samkubam, CEO for Africa at Crown Agents Bank; Olasupo Shasore, CWEIC Country Chair – Nigeria; Mr. Obinna Anyanwu, CWEIC Country Director – Nigeria; and Mr. Asif Chaudry, a leading Robotic Cancer Surgeon.
Governor Sanwo-Olu presented a commemorative plaque to Lord Marland during the visit, symbolizing Lagos’ appreciation of the Council’s role in strengthening investment and enterprise relations across the Commonwealth.
The meeting concluded with both parties pledging continued cooperation, with the Governor assuring that Lagos remains open for business and innovation-driven partnerships that would further boost trade, healthcare, and technological advancement in the state.
