In commemoration of Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Awareness Month, the Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA), in collaboration with Power Oil Nigeria Limited and KissKids Nigeria, organised the “Couples Wey Sabi” Market Fiesta at Oyingbo Market, Yaba, on Tuesday, 2025.
The community-focused initiative aimed to foster gender equality, strengthen healthy relationships, and promote shared responsibilities within marriages. Mrs. Titilola Vivour-Adeniyi, Executive Secretary of DSVA, represented by Mrs. Tope Ademola, reaffirmed the Agency’s dedication to combating gender-based violence through advocacy, education, and community engagement. She highlighted the importance of challenging harmful stereotypes and emphasised men’s role in preventing domestic and sexual violence.
A major highlight of the event was a cooking competition sponsored by Power Oil, where couples showcased their culinary skills and teamwork. Mr. Lukman and Mrs. Yemisi emerged as winners, expressing gratitude to DSVA for organising the initiative. Additionally, a childcare competition sponsored by KissKids Nigeria allowed couples to demonstrate shared parenting skills, reinforcing that childcare is a collective responsibility.
The event attracted the Iyaloja-General, the Baba Oja of Oyingbo, and members of the market committee, all of whom commended the Lagos State Government for bringing such a valuable initiative to their community.
Beyond the competitions and entertainment, the Market Fiesta effectively sensitised traders and community members on the importance of equality, teamwork in marriage, and the collective responsibility to end Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) in Lagos State.
