WTO and Partners Launch First Digital Trade Transformation Forum

Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), in collaboration with the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), Enterprise Singapore, and the World Customs Organization (WCO), has inaugurated the first Digital Trade Transformation Forum. The event, held recently, brought together over 100 private sector participants, including IT infrastructure providers, ERP developers, and policymakers.

The forum is aimed at driving the future of trade through digitalization and artificial intelligence. Key objectives include enhancing public-private sector collaboration on the interoperability of digital trade documentation and data, sharing solutions to address gaps across digital trade standards, and taking initial steps towards a roadmap for connectivity and data sharing across IT infrastructure, ERP systems, trade platforms, and the millions of businesses and governments they serve.

In her remarks, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala emphasized the importance of digitalization in shaping global trade, noting that today’s forum marks the beginning of an exciting journey towards a more connected and efficient trade ecosystem.

The event featured notable attendees, including ICC Chair Philippe Varin, Bruce Gosper, Vice President of the Asian Development Bank, WCO Secretary General Ian Saunders, Pamela Mar, and other key stakeholders in global trade. The forum underlines the commitment of international organizations and private sector partners to collaborate in advancing digital trade solutions for businesses worldwide.
