Nollywood actor and comedian Samuel Perry, popularly known as Broda Shaggi, has opened up about the gunshot injury that kept him away from entertainment for several months, revealing how he feared losing his career and being forgotten by fans.

The popular Nigerian skit maker shared his experience in a YouTube video released on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, recounting how a stray bullet struck his hip during a work engagement around Sango-Ota in Ogun State on March 9.

According to the comedian, the incident occurred shortly after he completed a brand activation assignment. He was travelling in a vehicle when he suddenly heard a loud gunshot and discovered that he was bleeding.

Shaggi explained that the experience left him terrified as he struggled to understand what had happened. He subsequently lost consciousness and was rushed to a hospital for emergency medical attention.

Recalling his fear during the incident, he said, “All that was in my mind was just to survive.”

The entertainer disclosed that the injury affected his ability to move his leg, raising concerns about whether he would ever return to the physically demanding performances that had become central to his comedy career.

Known for his energetic acting, dancing, singing and humorous street performances, Broda Shaggi said the possibility of losing his mobility was particularly frightening.

He explained that his career had involved years of continuous work, with little opportunity for extended rest since 2018. His regular activities included writing comedy scripts, filming skits, producing music and travelling for professional engagements.

However, the shooting abruptly interrupted that routine, forcing him to confront uncertainty about his health and professional future.

During his hospitalisation, Shaggi said he watched videos of fellow entertainers continuing their work while he remained unable to participate.

The experience sometimes left him emotional because he did not know whether he would regain the physical ability required to perform.

Beyond concerns about his recovery, the comedian admitted that his prolonged absence from entertainment made him worry about losing the attention and support of his audience.

He said the uncertainty was difficult because creating content had become an important part of his everyday life.

Despite his condition, Shaggi attempted to remain productive by writing new material and developing ideas for a YouTube series while undergoing treatment.

The comedian revealed that he initially underwent surgery in Nigeria but continued experiencing difficulties with his injured leg.

After approximately four months, he travelled to Dubai for further medical treatment and another operation.

According to him, the treatment abroad brought noticeable improvements. He said he was able to stand with assistance shortly after the procedure and subsequently began walking with crutches.

Although his condition has improved significantly, Shaggi disclosed that he has not fully recovered and still requires support while walking.

He explained that he can now stand independently and take steps without crutches, a development he considers important after previously struggling to place his injured leg on the ground.

Reflecting on the incident, the entertainer expressed gratitude for surviving the shooting, acknowledging that the consequences could have been considerably worse had the bullet struck another part of his body.

He described his survival as a second chance and said he was looking forward to returning to the entertainment industry.

The comedian also assured his supporters that he had several creative projects in development, signalling his intention to resume producing content as his recovery progresses.

His latest account provides further details about an incident that attracted public attention in March when reports emerged that he had sustained a gunshot injury around Sango-Ota.

At the time, the Ogun State Police Command said it could not confirm whether the shooting occurred within its jurisdiction and urged the public to avoid spreading unverified information.

While Broda Shaggi has now publicly confirmed sustaining the injury, the circumstances surrounding the discharge of the bullet and the identity of whoever fired it remain unclear.

His account also highlights the challenges performers may face when serious injuries interrupt their careers, particularly where their work depends heavily on physical movement and frequent public appearances.

For Broda Shaggi, the months away from entertainment were marked by medical treatment, uncertainty and fears about whether he would ever perform at his previous level.

However, his improving mobility and plans to resume work suggest that he is gradually rebuilding his professional life following the incident.

The comedian has thanked his supporters for their concern and encouraged fans to anticipate his forthcoming projects.
