NIMC WARNS NIGERIANS AGAINST SHARING PERSONAL DATA FOR FINANCIAL GAIN

Published on 29 July 2025 at 18:07

The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has issued a warning to Nigerians against sharing their personal data, including National Identification Number (NIN), for financial gain. The Commission noted with serious concern a recent statement by the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) about young Nigerians selling their personal information to Fintech institutions.

The NIMC expressed grave concern over the security implications of such actions, stating that it will not be held responsible for any personal information shared by an individual directly or by proxy for financial gain or inducement. The Commission has repeatedly warned Nigerians not to disclose their NIN to unauthorized individuals or organizations.

The NIMC emphasized the importance of verifying NINs before granting services, and service providers are advised to take note of this. Nigerians are also encouraged to take control of their personal data by downloading the NINAuth App, which provides protection and security of NIN, as well as the power to control personal information.

The NINAuth App is available for download on both Apple iOS and Google Play Store, offering seamless benefits to NIN holders. The app enables users to protect and secure their NIN, control their personal information, and enjoy other benefits.

The NIMC's warning serves as a reminder to Nigerians to prioritize the security of their personal data and be cautious of unscrupulous individuals seeking to exploit them for financial gain. By taking control of their personal data and using the NINAuth App, Nigerians can minimize the risks associated with sharing their NIN and other sensitive information.
