The Governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has officially sworn in the new leadership of two key state institutions — the Ebonyi State Civil Service Commission and the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC).

At the ceremony, held in Abakaliki, Governor Nwifuru administered the oath of office to Lady Virginia Oketa, who will serve as Chairperson of the Civil Service Commission, and to Hon. Enyi Patrick Chibuike, who will lead the Independent Electoral Commission, alongside other newly appointed members.

The governor charged the appointees to immediately commence their duties and to discharge their mandates with transparency, professionalism, and fairness.

“You are expected to carry out your assignments in line with the needs and aspirations of the Ebonyi people. Integrity and service must guide your work,” Governor Nwifuru said during the swearing-in.

The appointments are seen as part of the governor’s efforts to strengthen public institutions and ensure credible governance in the state.

  • Lady Virginia Oketa will oversee the Ebonyi State Civil Service Commission, responsible for recruitment, discipline, and welfare of civil servants.

  • Hon. Enyi Patrick Chibuike takes charge of EBSIEC, the body tasked with conducting and supervising local government elections in the state.

Other members of both commissions also took their oaths and pledged loyalty to the service of Ebonyi State.

Analysts say the swearing-in marks a significant step in consolidating governance structures, especially as the Independent Electoral Commission prepares for upcoming local government elections.

Civil society groups have urged the new officials to uphold accountability, fairness, and independence in carrying out their functions.

With the commissions now fully constituted, expectations are high that their operations will reflect the administration’s promise of good governance and people-centered reforms.

Governor Nwifuru reiterated his administration’s commitment to empowering institutions that will “deliver dividends of democracy” to Ebonyi residents.
