Western Naval Command FOC Visits Chevron Nigeria to Strengthen Maritime Collaboration

The Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command (FOC WNC), Rear Admiral Mike Gregory Oamen, paid a familiarisation visit to the Chairman and Managing Director of Chevron Nigeria Limited and Mid-Africa Business, Mr. Jim Swartz, at Chevron’s Lagos office on Wednesday, 10 September 2025. The engagement forms part of ongoing efforts by the Nigerian Navy to strengthen collaboration with key stakeholders in the maritime and oil sectors.

During the visit, Rear Admiral Oamen highlighted the Nigerian Navy’s significant investments over the past decade in Maritime Domain Awareness systems and fleet renewal to safeguard the nation’s territorial waters. He emphasized the Navy’s unwavering commitment to maintaining a secure maritime environment, particularly in western waters that host numerous offshore oil and gas installations. The FOC also underscored the importance of close synergy between the Navy and Chevron in protecting national energy resources against emerging threats.

In response, Mr. Swartz welcomed Rear Admiral Oamen and his entourage, expressing appreciation for the Navy’s ongoing efforts to ensure safety and security in Nigeria’s offshore operations. He reaffirmed Chevron’s commitment to further strengthening its partnership with the Nigerian Navy, particularly in the areas of maritime security and capacity building, highlighting the mutual benefits of continued collaboration between the two entities.
