In a significant step toward promoting women’s empowerment and inclusive growth, the Edo State Government, through its Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, has partnered with Women Helping Women (WHW), an organization dedicated to the socio-economic upliftment of women and girls through vocational training and mentorship programs.
The collaboration was highlighted during a meeting between the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Chief Bisi Idaomi, Esq., and the founder of Women Helping Women, Prof. Elizabeth Pedro, at the Ministry’s office in Benin City. Chief Idaomi commended Prof. Pedro’s visionary leadership and the launch of the Women Helping Women Vocational Hub in Edo State, noting the potential it holds to transform the lives of women and girls across the state.
Chief Idaomi reaffirmed the Edo State Government’s commitment to creating an enabling environment for women to thrive. She emphasized that the partnership aligns perfectly with the Ministry’s vision of empowering women and promoting inclusive socio-economic development. Highlighting the broader impact, she explained that initiatives such as this equip women with entrepreneurial and creative skills, fostering sustainable livelihoods and driving economic growth in the state.
In her remarks, Prof. Elizabeth Pedro underscored the transformative power of entrepreneurship and the importance of diversifying income streams among women and girls. She emphasized the immense potential within every woman and noted that Women Helping Women seeks to harness that potential through comprehensive training and mentorship programs. Prof. Pedro also recommended the adoption of a specially designed book in vocational institutions across the state to amplify the initiative’s impact.
A key moment of the engagement was the presentation of a copy of the book, “60 Days Women Helping Women Transformation Roadmap”, to Commissioner Idaomi by Prof. Pedro. The book is intended to empower women with entrepreneurship skills and practical tools for personal and professional development.
The partnership signals a strong commitment by both the Edo State Government and Women Helping Women to equip women and young girls with the skills and knowledge necessary to reach their full potential, creating opportunities for sustainable development and growth within the state.
