Air Peace has issued a statement addressing recent media reports citing a preliminary Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) report regarding one of its aircraft at Port Harcourt on July 13, 2025.
In a clarification released by the airline, Air Peace noted that it has yet to receive any official communication from NSIB on the alleged findings, more than a month after the incident. The airline highlighted that alcohol testing of the crew was conducted within an hour of the occurrence.
Emphasizing its commitment to safety, transparency, and compliance, Air Peace reaffirmed its strict policies on alcohol and drug use. The airline conducts regular alcohol and drug tests for all crew members, enforcing rules stricter than the regulatory requirement of no alcohol eight hours before flight, with zero tolerance for drug use.
Following the incident, the airline took immediate action, grounding the captain of the affected flight for failure to follow Crew Resource Management (CRM) principles and disregarding standard go-around procedures suggested by the co-pilot. Air Peace clarified that the grounding was not due to a positive alcohol test, as no official NSIB result had been communicated to the airline.
Contrary to media reports, the First Officer (co-pilot), who demonstrated professionalism by calling for a go-around, has been cleared by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) to resume active flying duties. Air Peace stressed that any involvement in alcohol or drug use would have precluded his reinstatement.
The airline also emphasized plans to intensify crew monitoring, including more frequent alcohol and drug tests, enhanced Fitness-for-Duty checks, and stronger internal oversight to prevent any breach of its zero-tolerance safety policy.
Air Peace reaffirmed its commitment to global best practices and assured passengers and the public that safety remains the airline’s top priority.
